Timberline Trail – Walking 3 days around Mt Hood

This was from our 2 nights – 3 days long Timberline Trail backpacking trip looping around the Mt. Hood (August 19-22, 2020). We have started from the Timberline Lodge and walked in the clockwise direction. First stop was around Muddy Creek (~2 miles after Ramona Falls). The second stop was at Cloud Cap Saddle Campground and finally reached the Timberline Lodge.

Unlike our South Sister Climb a month earlier (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BY9QE96Qn4k), the trail and campsites were free of mosquitos. There was a sizable crowd on the trails, some are day hikers/runners, some are PCTers (Pacific Crest Trail) and some are like ourselves, loopers. The trail offers exceptional views of Mt. Hood from all angles. My favorite day in terms of views was the last day where the glaciers and large valleys from the Mt. Hood were clearly visible.

The Timberline Trail is a popular hiking trail that encircles Mount Hood, a stratovolcano in the Cascade Range of Oregon. The trail is roughly 40 miles (64 kilometers) long and takes about 3 to 5 days to complete. The trail offers breathtaking views of Mount Hood and the surrounding area, as well as a variety of flora and fauna. It passes through forests, meadows, and streams, and offers opportunities for camping, fishing, and birdwatching along the way. The trail is open year-round, but is most popular in the summer and fall months.
